Quest of the Dreamwalker and an #Author named Stacy

I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to Stacy Bennett. 

This Jersey girl grew up on sci/fi and fantasy books setting the stage for her own love of stories. Her writing focuses on souls broken by life or betrayal who nevertheless love fiercely and selflessly. On a lighter note, like many authors, she loves cats and coffee. She’d never been to a circus until her 22^nd birthday.  Some of her favorite classic sci/fi/fan authors include Ursula LeGuin and C.J. Cherryh.

Stacy took a few moments out of her busy schedule to chat with us about writing and her newest book.  Hi Stacy!   Please tell us, What do you love most about Writing?

The typing. No really, I love typing.

Yeah, it’s strange but I am a writer after all and we are a strange breed.

I love watching a blank page come to life with text – the original code that turns 2D symbols into a whole 3D world.  Granted many of those words will end up on the cutting room floor, but a good writing day is a glorious thing. My fingers literally fly across the clacking keys when I find that zone.

And in that zone is where I find the best stories. Yes “find” –  because for me stories are discoveries more than creations. And the best way to get there is to get typing. 

Do you have a preferred POV that you write from and why? 

Definitely 3^rd person limited is my favorite. When I’m in 1^st person, I always want to know (and to show) what the other person is thinking. Sometimes knowing both sides creates tension, like in a horror movie when the audience knows what lurks behind that basement door.  

Although it’s often hard to select just one, do you have a favourite or least favourite character? What sets them apart from others?

 I’m sure most who’ve read my books would think Falin is my favorite and she is hands down my favorite of my published works. But actually I think the daemon Raiden from my WIP Mask of Innocence (a supernatural romance) is my real favorite. He is not the main protagonist however his story runs parallel to the human man he is Branded to.  As a high ranking daemon, he controls the elemental power of lightning and was one of the King of Hell’s best generals, until he began to think for himself. His daemonic tendencies are often at war with his logic. He puts his own interests first – most of the time. His character arc is one that you’ll root for and remember. It’s gonna be a great book and you’ll love him. 

Is there any conflict between what you want to write and what you think your readers will like?

Yeah, I worry about that. I’m quite sentimental at times. And I do love me a tortured hero. So I don’t want to overdo the melancholy. Still, in general, I don’t write to fit what I think will sell. I write the story as it comes to me, as it unfolds inside my head.  And hope for the best.

What’s exciting you about your next project?

I’m currently writing Hound of Barakan, the sequel to Quest of the Dreamwalker. What started as a simple continuation of Cara and Falin’s journey to find their lost destiny has turned into a tapestry of histories and personalities. Forbidden magic, cultural barriers, past traumas and a love that only just began at the end of Dreamwalker weave together in stories that span a continent. All of them spinning around the central question we all ask: Who were we born to be and who do we want to be?

The sorcerer Sidonius crippled Cara’s soul so he could one day steal her magic, but the key to what she lost waits for her in her dreams. A chance encounter with the mercenary Sidonius kidnapped to feed his waning power awakens something in Cara, something that had long slept undisturbed. Unwilling to watch the man die by a sorcery she knows painfully well, she escapes with him and flees hoping to find a new life far from away. Khoury vows to do whatever it takes to save her, even if that means using the magic he swore he’d never touch. But without reclaiming her stolen birthright, neither of them can stop Sidonius from sacrificing them both to an even darker power.
